Contribution of the 65-kilodalton protein encoded by the cloned gene cry19A to the mosquitocidal activity of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. jegathesan

Article Abstract:

The 65-kilodalton protein encoded by the cloned gene cry19A was analyzed and the mosquitocidal activity of these proteins was tested on three mosquito species. The genes coding for these proteins were cloned and sequenced to determine the approximate amino acid composition of the gene product. The 65-kilodalton protein has remarkable sequence homology to other delta-endotoxins of B. thuringiensis. The gene orf2 was also isolated and characterized.

Identification and characterization of a previously undescribed cyt gene in Bacillus thurigiensis subsp. israelensis

Article Abstract:

The identification and characterization of previously undescribed cyt gene in Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis were examined using sequence analysis. Results reveal that B. thurigiensis strains contain toxic proteins with cytolytic and hemolytic activities. Furthermore, B. thuringiensis subsp. israelensis showed cross-reactive products only in very small amounts.

The Bacillus thuringiensis cyt genes for hemolytic endotoxins constitute a gene family

Article Abstract:

All strains of Bacillus thuringiensis appear to have genes for the Cyt toxins, which are active against dipteran, lepidopteran, and coleopteran larvae. DNA and protein sequencing reveals a high degree of conservation in this toxin.
