Correlation of Campylobacter bacteriophage with reduced presence of hosts in broiler chicken ceca

Article Abstract:

The relationships between populations of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter-specific bacteriophage were investigated in the broiler chicken ceca selected from United Kingdom flocks. The results suggest that phage affect the numbers of Campylobacter jejuni in commercial broiler chickens to various degrees which demonstrates a correlation between the presence of natural environmental phage and reduction in the numbers of Campylobacter colonizing broiler chicken ceca.

Bacteriophage therapy to reduce Campylobacter jejuni colonization of broiler chickens

Article Abstract:

The use of Campylobacter bacteriophages to reduce numbers of campylobacters in experimentally infected chickens and the optimization of the phage therapy regime is described. The studies on the acquistions of phage reisstance by the test campylobacters exposed to phage in the chicken intestine are described and the implications of this for the use of phage therapy to control campylobacters are presented.

Enumeration and diversity of campylobacters and bacteriophages isolated during the rearing cycles of free-range and organic chickens

Article Abstract:

The enumeration and diversity of campylobacters and bacteriophages that were isolated during the rearing cycle of free-range and organic chickens are described. The interactions between campylobacters, bacteriophages and other potential anti-Campylobacter agents in the course of rearing chicken flocks exposed to the environment are studied.
