Article Abstract:
The construction of a Cre-lox-based system for multiple gene deletions in Lactobacillus plantarum that could be adapted for use on gram-positive bacteria is presented. This multiple gene deletion system for gram positive bacteria allows for effective, standardized construction of double-crossover mutants that could be introduced in a single genetic background by a simple repetitive procedure using mutant lox sites of Cre-mediated selectable-marker removal.

Research describes the cloning, sequencing, and characterization of the prtR gene encoding a novel type of cell envelope proteinase, PrtR, from the human vaginal Lactobacillus rhamnosus BGT10. Results indicate that the prtR expression is Casitone dependent, suggesting that its transcription is enhanced under depleted nitrogen in conformation with the enzyme's catalytic activity.

Article Abstract:
The capacity of Lactobacillus plantarum to produce sorbitol from frutose-6-phosphate by reverting the sorbitol catabolic pathway in a mutant strain deficient for both L- and D- lactate dehydrogenase activities is investigated. It was found that the two sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase genes were constitutively expressed at a high level in the mutant strain.
