Effects of low-shear modeled microgravity on cell function, gene expression and phenotype in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

The behavior of Saccharomyces cerevisiae grown in a high-aspect-ratio vessel, which stimulates the low-shear and microgravity conditions encountered in spaceflight was examined. It was hypothesized that altered gene expression in cells grown in low-shear modeled microgravity might result in changes in the yeast phenotypic and functional characteristics that could be identified and measured by conventional microscopic and fluorescent staining techniques.

Forest soil metagenome gene cluster involved in antifungal activity expression in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

Saccharomyces cerevisiae is used as a target organism for isolating a metagenome clone with antifungal activity in Escherichia coli. The results have described the metagenomic approach as an alternative to search for novel antifungal antibiotics from uncultured soil bacteria

Shuffling of promoters for multiple genes to optimize xylose fermentation in an engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain

Article Abstract:

A multiple gene promoter shuffling (MGPS) method is developed to detect best expression level for multiple genes. Results conclude that the method reaches best expression level by mixing promoters of several strengths with genes of interest for a specific pathway.
