Article Abstract:
The isolation of a core cluster of hrp genes, a cluster pair of hrp regulatory genes (hrpX and hrpG), and a phrA gene from the Chinese strain RS105 of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola is reported. Mutation in the isolation hrp genes, hrp regulatory genes, and a phrA gene of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzicola results in a loss of pleiotropic phenotypes for both the ability to induce the hypersensitive response in nonhost tobacco and pathogenicity in host rice.

Article Abstract:
The promoter-trapping techniques differential fluorescence induction (DFI) and in vivo expression technology (IVET), which are used to identify and study genes showing elevated levels of expression in complex environments, are discussed. It is indicated that genes activated in a specific niche are likely to encode traits that are important determinants of ecological performance in that environment.

Article Abstract:
The development and application of the in vivo expression technology (IVET) strategy based on a Pseudomonas stutzeri A15 dapB mutant strain defective in the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan and lysine is described. The application of this technique makes it possible to identify several genes specifically induced during the colonization of rice by Pseudomonas stutzeri A15.
