Formation of catechols via removal of acid side chains from ibuprofen and related aromatic acids

Article Abstract:

A yellow color, indicative of meta-cleavage accumulated transiently in the culture supernatant when Ibu-2 was grown on ibuprofen and when 3-flourocatechols was used to poison the meta-cleavage system, isobutylcatechols was identified in the culture supernatant through gas hromatography-mass spectroscopy analysis. In contrast to the widely distributed coenzyme A ligase, homogentistae or homoprotocatechuate pathway for metabolism of phenylacetic acid and similar compounds, Ibu-2 removes the acidic side chain of ibuprofen and related compounds prior to ring cleavage.

Bioaerosol mass spectrometry for rapid detection of individual airborne mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra particles

Article Abstract:

An evaluation on the single-particle laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, in the form of bioaerosol mass spectrometry (BAMS) was made as a rapid detector for individual airborne, micron-sized, Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra particles. The BAMS mass spectral signatures for aerosolized Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra particles were found to be distinct from Mycobacterium smegmatis, Bacillus atrophaeus and Bacillus cereus particles.

Characteristics of Gloeophyllum trabeum alcohol oxidase, an extracellular source of [H.sub.2][O.sub.2] in brown rot decay of wood

Article Abstract:

The enzymes purified from the brown rot fungus having similar biochemical characteristics of alcohol oxidase (AOX) were analyzed. Results concluded that AOX play a crucial role in brown rot decay of wood.
