Article Abstract:
A 32-kb genomic DNA fragment from Pseudomonas fluorescens BL915 which contains genes involved in the biosynthesis of pyrrolnitrin (Prn) has been isolated. Prn is a secondary metabolite of Pseudomonas and Burkholderia sp. strains with strong antifungal activity. Findings indicated the specific involvement of a cluster of four open reading frames (ORFs). These ORFs are needed for the synthesis of Prn. Transfer of these genes and induction of their expression in Escherichia coli caused the production of Prn in this organism.

Article Abstract:
Engineered Streptomyces lividans and Pseudomonas putida strains that express the cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYP) enzyme Ema1 of Streptomyces tubercidicus R-922 for the oxidation of the 4"-carbinol of avermectins is described. Ferrodoxin (FD) and ferredoxin reductase (FRE) proteins that support an increased level of biotcatalytic activity upon coexpression with Ema1 in these strains are cloned.

Article Abstract:
Seventeen Streptomyces strains that are able to biotransform avermectin to 4"-oxo-avermectin, a key intermediate towards the synthesis of the commercial insecticide emamectin benzonate is identified. The biocatalytic enzymes from these strains are identified as cytochrome P450 monooxygenases.
