Fraction of electrons consumed in electron acceptor reduction and hydrogen thresholds as indicators of halorespiratory physiology

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to prove that both calculating the H2 threshold and determining the fraction of electrons used for energy formation provide excellent indications of halorespiratory physiology. By using several pure and mixed cultures, the applicability of both approaches was illustrated. Also, H2 threshold calculations derived for mixed cultures that dechlorinated vinyl chloride (VC) to ethene suggested that VC-respiring organochlorine-reducing bacteria were present despite the fact that the organisms were not obtained in pure culture.

Acetate threshold concentrations suggest varying energy requirement during anaerobic respiration by Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenans

Article Abstract:

The study measures the acetate threshold concentrations in acetotrophic chlororespiration and dissimilatory Fe(III) reduction by using Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenans strain 2CP-C as a model organism. This study provides insight into the metabolic use of energy under different growth conditions, by comparing threshold concentrations for different metabolisms in a single organism.

Uranium(VI) reduction by Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenans strain 2CP-C

Article Abstract:

Uranium(VI) reduction by Anaeromyxobacter dehalogenas strain 2CP-C is explored and characterized. The metabolic versatility has enabled the Anaeromyxobacter dehalogens as a promising model organism for studying the complex interaction of multiple electron acceptors in U(VI) reduction and immobilization.
