From 2R to 3R: Evidence for a fish-specific genome duplication (FSGD)

Article Abstract:

The importance of the role of whole genome duplications in shaping the architectures of vertebrate genomes is recognized through the examination of the complete genomic of fishes and their comparative analyses. The strength of the evidence for two rounds (2R) of genome duplications early in the evolution of the vertebrate lineage and for the fish specific genome duplication (3R) has increased in late years.

Metabolic responses to low temperature in fish muscle

Article Abstract:

The metabolic responses to temperature in fish are reviewed, examining both evolutionary and phenotypic responses, with particular emphasis upon muscle and mitochondria. The energetic cost of maintaining eprimedE mitochondria together with the deleterious effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during electron transport makes the possession of mitochondria a double-edged sword.

Deciphering the swordtail's tale: a molecular and evolutionary quest

The idea that morphological traits can evolve in response to mating preference and/or competition for mates is further studied. A molecular insight into the development of the swordtail and its history is put forth.
