Function of the MAPK scaffold protein, Ste5, requires a cryptic domain

Article Abstract:

Ste5, the prototypic mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) scaffold protein associates with plasma membrane-tethered G(beta)(gamma) freed upon pheromone receptor occupancy, thereby initiating downstream signaling. Study is conducted to show that PH domain is essential for stable membrane recruitment of Ste5, and this association is critical for initiation of downstream signaling because it allows Ste5-boundSte11 (MAPKKK) to be activated by membrane-bound St20 (MAPKKKK).

SUMO modifications control assembly of synaptonemal complex and polycomplex in meiosis of saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

A report is presented that Zip1 is a binding protein for small ubiquitin-related modifier (SUMO)-conjugated products and Zip3 is a SUMO E3 ligase. The results indicate that at early meiotic prophase, Zip1 interacts with Zip3-independent Smt3 conjugates to promote nonhomologous centromere coupling.

Bem1p, a scaffold signaling protein, mediates cyclin-dependent control of vacuolar homeostasis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

The scaffold protein Bem1p, a critical regulator of Cdc42p activity, is a downstream effector of Cln3p and the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) Cdc 28 p is shown. A mechanism is provided that links cyclin-dependent kinase activity with vacuole fusion through Bem1p and the Cdc42p GTPase cycle.
