Functional analysis of the flagellar genes in the fliD operon of Salmonella typhimurium

Article Abstract:

Genes in the flagellar marphogenesis of Salmonella typhimurium show that the transfer of flagellin through the flagellum specific export pathway is induced by the chromosomal FliD gene. Mutants were developed with disrupted chromosomal fliS and fliT genes by using the gene-replacement method. The fliS mutation is necessary for the lengthening of the filament but the amount of flagellin excreted is decreased by this mutation.

The Salmonella FigA protein, a putative periplasmic chaperone essential for flagellar P ring formation

Article Abstract:

The Salmonella FigA protein, thought to be a periplasmic chaperone required for flagellar P ring formation, is discussed. Two flagellar genes are known to be necessary for P ring formation. The role of the flgA gene product in P ring assembly has been studied. Eevidence indicates that FlgA is made as a precursor form. It is exported through the Sec secretory pathway into the periplasmic space where the ring is formed.

An AfsK/AfsR system involved in the response of aerial mycelium formation to glucose in Streptomyces griseus

Article Abstract:

A protein serine/threonine kinase/target protein (AfsK/AfsR) system with a role in the glucose response of aerial mycelium formation in Streptomyces griseus is discussed. Topics include autophosphorylation of serine and threonine residues in AfsK-g and transcriptional analyses of afsK-g and afsR-g.
