Transformation of amoxapine by Cunninghamella elegans

Article Abstract:

The fungus Cunninghamella elegans can metabolize the tricyclic antidepressant drug amoxapine. This will allow scientists to produce large quantities of amoxapine metabolites to study their toxicity.

Fungal biotransformation of the antihistamine azatadine by Cunninghamella elegans

Article Abstract:

Zygomycete fungus Cunninghamella elegans metabolism of the antihistamine, azatadine, shows that the biotransformation of azatadine occurs within 72 hours in a culture grown in Sabouraud dextrose. High performance liquid chromatography isolates and characterizes two major metabolites, 7-hydroxy and 8-hydroxy azatadine and two minor metabolites, N-desmethyl azatadine and 9-hydroxy azatadine. The metabolites have a hydroxylated aromatic ring.

Novel metabolites in phenanthrene and pyrene transformation by Aspergillus niger

Article Abstract:

The novel metabolites in phenanthrene and pyrene transformation by Aspergillus niger was examined using polycyclic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Results show that A. niger metabolized phenanthrene and pyrene similar to other soil fungi. Furthermore, formation of conjugates such as glucoride, glucoromide and sulfur which are medium-dependent was observed. Two major metabolites and one minor metabolite were also observed in pyrene metabolism of A. niger.
