Genomic interspecies microarray hybridization: rapid discovery of three thousand genes in the maize endophyte, Klebsiella pneumoniae 342, by microarray hybridization with Escherichia coli K-12 open reading frames

Article Abstract:

Microarray hybridization can be used to quickly identify the genes in a bacterium with an unknown genome provided the genome of a close relative has been determined. This process was used to determine the genome of the diazotrophic endophyte of maize, Klebsiella pneumoniae 342 by hybridizing it with the DNA of E. coli K-12.

Kinetics and strain specificity of rhizosphere and endophytic colonization by enteric bacteria on seedlings of Medicago sativa and Medicago truncatula

Article Abstract:

Research elucidates the ability and mode of entry of the human pathogenic, enteric bacteria into plants and colonize lateral root cracks and the vascular tissue. Data show a strong correlation between endophytic colonization and rhizosphere colonization and strain specificity for plant entry with lateral root cracks serving as entry points.
