Article Abstract:
Genetic research has established the nucleotide sequence of a 52 kb and 1.1 Mb genome in the alpha-proteobacteria Rickettsia prowazekii. Thirty-two coding sequences from the obligate intracellular parasite genome were found to match putative homologues in public databases. Evidence suggests that the genome contains gene order structures which are not found in any other organism.

Article Abstract:
The Mycobacterium tuberculosis katG promoter region contains a novel upstream activator. The M. tuberculosis katG promoter region has been characterized. Conditions under which katG is expressed in an M. smegmatis host have been studied. The promoter is induced by ascorbic acid and repressed by oxygen limitation and growth at higher temperatures.

Article Abstract:
The Cowdria ruminatium organism causes heartwater of cowdriosis, a tick-borne disease of domestic ruminants. The genetic map for this organism is the first for an Ehrlichieae member, and 9 genes or cloned C. ruminantium DNA fragments were mapped to specific Rsrll, Smal, and KspI fragments.
