Article Abstract:
The strains of Xanthomonas pathovar mangiferaeindicae isolated from mango, pepper and ambarella show high genetic variability. Restriction fragment length polymorphism divides 127 strains into two groups. Group I contains strains producing white-colonies, while Group II contains strains producing yellow colonies. Hybridization analysis produces four groups. The group with the highest variability contains Asian strains. The composition of the other groups suggests the widespread availability of the pathogenic bacteria and the presence of different strains in the same geographical location.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the relationship between visual symptom development and bacterial invasion in leaves of anthurium. Anthurium cultivars were inoculated with a bioluminescent strain of Xanthomonas campestris pv. dieffenbachiae. Data indicated that variations in varietal susceptibility were enhanced in the initial trial due to the greater cumulative temperature effect toward the late period of infection. Results also supported the necessity of guarding against bacterial blight.

Article Abstract:
A useful diagnostic tool, a nested PCR test was developed from a sequence characterized amplified region marker identified by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA PCR for the detection of Xanothomonas axonopodis pv dieffenbachiae. Serological and pathogenicity tests were performed concurrently with the nested PCR test with a large collection of X. axonopodis pv. dieffenbachiae strains that were isolated worldwide and are pathogenic to anthurium and/or other aroids.
