Mutations in the csgD promoter associated with variations in curli expression in certain strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7
Article Abstract:
A mutation in the csgD promoter of E. coli O157:H7 produces a strain that expresses curli fibers. These surface appendages are produced by E. coli under stressful environmental conditions, but this is the first documentation of their occurrence in strain O157:H7.

Genotypic analyses of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and O157 nonmotile isolates recovered from beef cattle and carcasses at processing plants in the Midwestern states of the United States
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the Escherichia coli O157:H7 and O157 nonmotile isolates recovered from the feces, hides and carcasses at beef processing plants. The relationship between the cattle infection and carcass contamination has been investigated based on prevalence.

Evaluation of a real-time PCR kit for detecting Escherichia coli O157 in bovine fecal samples
Article Abstract:
A commercially available real-time, rapid PCR test is evaluated for its ability to detect Escherichia coli O157. Both the sensitivity and specificity of the assay were 99% for isolates in pure culture.
