Article Abstract:
Researchers found that there are large differences in the microbial populations on vanilla beans during the extensive processing time. This means that it may be difficult to use biotechnology to shorten the curing process and lower the cost of natural vanilla.

Article Abstract:
Different microbial populations occur in landfill leachate-polluted aquifers depending on the proximity to the pollution and the redox state of the water. Members of the beta subclass of Proteobacteria predominate upstream of the landfill, gram-positive bacteria predominate beneath the landfill, and beta- and delta-proteobacteria predominate downstream.

Article Abstract:
The relationship between community composition of the iron-reduced Geobacteraceae, pollution levels and the occurrence of biodegradation were established for an iron-reduced aquifer polluted with landfill leachate. The numerical analysis of denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) profiles and sequencing revealed a high Geobacteraceae diversity and showed that community composition within the leachate plume differed considerably from that of the unpolluted aquifer.
