Geographic risk for Lyme disease and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis in Southern New York State
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the risk of infection by Lyme disease and human granulocytic ehrlichiosis in Hudson Valley, NY, based on the distribution and density of Ixodes scapularis. Findings indicated that the risk of contacting tick-borne disease varied significantly from site to site. Results also showed that populations of I. scapularis have spread northward and westward through he lower Hudson Valley from Westchester County.

Interaction and transmission of two Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto strains in a tick-rodent maintenance system
Article Abstract:
A laboratory system with Peromyscus leucopus mice and Ixodes scapularis ticks were used to study the influence of genetic differences in Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto strains on transmission dynamics in nature. Results showed that strains like B348 may be more effectively maintained in different tick-vertebrate transmission cycles.

Real-time PCR for simultaneous detection and quantification of Borrelia burgdorferi in field-collected Ixodes scapularis ticks from the northeastern United States
Article Abstract:
The authors have investigated Borrelia burgdorferi. The use of real-time PCR protocol for the study of B. burgdorferi-specific gene for the detection and quantification of the Lyme disease spirochete in field-collested Ixodes scapularis ticks is described.
