Genes required for germline removal to extend life span are identified and analyzed. It is found that the reproductive system communicates with the intestine through lipophilic-hormone signaling and that a gene called kri-1 is likely to act in the intestine to promote DAF-16 nuclear localization in response to this signal.

A description of the long-lived mutants and insights regarding the process of aging are presented. The results indicate that the delays in age-related diseases could be caused by the mutations that affect the longevity pathways.
