I-kappa-B-beta regulates the persistent response in a biphasic activation of NF-kappa-B

Article Abstract:

Characterization of the cDNA that codes for I-kappa-B-beta reveals the six tightly-packed ankyrin repeats to be a common feature of all I-kappa-B recombinant proteins. The protein inhibits DNA binding and binds to C-Rel and p-65, without any specificity. I-kappa-B-beta varies from the alpha isoform in its response to NF-kappa-B activators. While prolonged activators lead to the degradation of both alpha and beta isoforms, transient activators influence only the alpha isoform, indicating that the stimulation of NF-kappa-B is biphasic, with the transient initial induction of I-kappa-B-alpha complexes being followed by the continued induction of beta complexes.

HLA-DM induces CLIP dissociation from MHC class II alpha-beta dimers and facilitates peptide loading

Article Abstract:

The dissociation of class II-associated invariant chain (CLIP) peptides from major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II-CLIP complexes is facilitated by human leukocyte antigen DM (HLA-DM) at acidic pH. HLA-DM and MHC class II molecules present in the lysosome compartments are structurally similar and a transient interaction between these two molecules is necessary for the dissociation reaction.
