Lineage commitment in the immune system: the T helper lymphocyte grows up

Article Abstract:

The T helper lymphocytes and their function in the immune system are discussed in this review article. The current knowledge of signals that regulate lineage commitment in T helper cells is summarized with emphasis on three subset-specific transcription factors responsible for lineage commitment. They are T-bet, c-Maf and GATA-3. Topics include cytokines, development of the Th1 lineage and signaling pathways, interferons in the Th1 responses, APC, antigen and costimulation.

PGC-1[alpha] regulates the neuromuscular junction program and ameliorates Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Article Abstract:

The transcription of a neuromuscular junction gene is enhanced by the phosphorylation of PGC-1[alpha] and GA-binding protein. The control extended by the coactivator PGC-1[alpha] is found to be vital in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
