MicroRNA-9a ensures the precise specification of sensory organ precursors in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Study is presented to report that the loss of miR-9a function in the Drosophila peripheral nervous system leads to ectopic production of sensory organ precursors (SOPs) whereas overexpression of miR-9a results in a severe loss of SOPs. It is indicated that miR-9a ensures the generation of the precise number of neuronal precursor cells during development.

Functionally distinct regulatory RNAs generated by bidirectional transcription and processing of microRNA loci

Article Abstract:

The phenomenon behind the generation of distinct regulatory RNAs generated by bidirectional transcription and the processing of microRNA loci is investigated. The antisense transcription and processing is very essential for the diversification of miRNA genes.

The Drosophila microRNA iab-4 causes a dominant homeotic transformation of halters to wings

Article Abstract:

The iab-4 locus, which produces the microRNAs iab-4-5p and iab-4-3p is analyzed. The results provide the evidence for a noncoding, homeotic gene and raise a possibility that other such gene occur within the Drosophila Bithorax complex.
