gld-1, a tumor suppressor gene required for oocyte development in Caenorhabditis elegans

Article Abstract:

The characterization of 31 mutations in the gld-1 gene of Caenorhabditis elegans reveals that in gld-1 hermaphrodites, oogenesis is destroyed but the gld-1 null males are unaffected. The destruction of the oogenesis results in the formation of a germline tumor at the place where oocyte development usually occurs. The oogenesis is destroyed by the gld-1 partial loss-of-function mutations. This indicates that for development of oocytes gld-1 is essential as it functions as a tumor suppressor gene.

Analysis of the multiple roles of gld-1 in germline development: interactions with the sex determination cascade and the glp-1 signaling pathway

Article Abstract:

The dependency of tumor formation on the sexual features of the germline in Caenorhabditis elegans is investigated using the technique of genetic epistasis analysis. The tumor is formed at the location where oogenesis occurs when the germline pathway is in the female mode, with the terminal fem fog genes inactive.

CED-12/ELMO, a novel member of the CrkII/Dock180/Rac pathway, is required for phagocytosis and cell migration

Article Abstract:

The signaling pathway genes ced-12 and elmo-1 participate in the phagocytosis and cell migration in Caenorhabditis elegans and mammals, respectively. Data indicate that CED12/ELMO-1 binds directly to CED-5/Dock180 and stimulates a Rac-GEF, which leads to Rac1 activation.
