A RACHITT for our toolbox

Article Abstract:

The authors used RACHITT (random chimeragenesis on transient templates) to create a hybrid dibenzothiophene monooxygenase that is more efficient at biodesulfurization of fossil fuels than parent genes to show the effectiveness of this method of gene shuffling. The article also refers to "DNA shuffling method of regenerating highly recombined genes and evolved enzymes" of this issue (p. 354-359).

Xenotransplantation of transgenic pig olfactory ensheathing cells promotes axonal regeneration in rat spinal cord

Article Abstract:

Transplantation of olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) or Schwaann cells derived from transgenic pigs expressing the human compliment inhibitory protein CD59 (hCD59) into transected dorsal column lesions of the spinal cord of the immunosuppressed rat to induce axonal regeneration is described.
