A profile of foreign direct investment by the US fruit and vegetable industry

Article Abstract:

The decision by US fruit and vegetable growers to engage in foreign direct investment (FDI) is prompted by incentives. Most of the commodities produced as a result of FDI by US fruit and vegetable firms are exported to the country. US tariffs on fruits and vegetables and FDI by US produce companies in Latin America were also found to be related. An analysis of the impact of trade agreements on the US market revealed significant implications such as the likelihood of more FDI and a more global-oriented market for the US fruit and vegetable industry.

International trade analysis of impact of North American Free Trade Agreement on US pecan producers

Article Abstract:

A supply and demand model is developed to analyze the welfare effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on pecan producers in the US. An excess supply model for pecans produced in Mexico is also created. Results projected a 50% increase in the supply of pecans for the American market, including a 2.35% net increase in social welfare. Real income in Mexico will increase, resulting to a corresponding rise in the demand for pecans in that country.
