A question of disciplines

Article Abstract:

Portfolio management may involve stock selection by focusing on individual stocks, a bottom-up method, or using a macroeconomic analysis to focus on sectors, a top-down method. Quantitative methods require tools, and a systematic approach. They are seen as superior to traditional methods in that the method is rigorous, but they may lack the intuitive components of qualitative methods. The two approaches can be reconciled using a multi manager approach.
