A ring fence for the profession: advancing the closure of British accountancy 1957-1970

Article Abstract:

There has been extensive research in the UK into efforts by the accountancy profession to secure closure. Latest research has focused on challenges facing the accountancy profession when seeking to implement a closure strategy during the 1960s, when the socio-political climate was undergoing significant change. It appears that a conceptualized relationship of mutual dependency, with the accountancy profession being rewarded for the supply and control of expert labour, is too abstract. The utility of detailed tracking of closure attempts has been highlighted.
