British Airways (BA) is negotiating a price for a stake in Iberia. The Spanish government is thought to value Iberia at 2 billion pounds sterling, while BA is believed to have made a valuation of 400 million pounds less. This would mean that BA would have to pay an additional 60 million pounds for the stake if the Spanish government's figure is used. BA would have to acquire a stake of 5% in Iberia if it is seeking an alliance with the airline, according to the Spanish government.

British Regional Air Lines (BRAL) plans a stock issue in Jun 1998 through an institutional placing which gives the company a value of up to 103 million pounds sterling. BRAL will raise some 20 million pounds sterling new money from the stock issue which is intended to repay debt and finance payments for new aircraft. The company's prospects appear to be good and the growth rate of its market is some 12% annually which is double the rate of the market as a whole.
