Article Abstract:
British Telecom (BT) is seen as a defensive investment and appears to be performing well, but there are questions about the impact on BT's revenue of an economic slowdown. The company faces slow growth for fixed-line telephony, which accounts for some 75% of group revenue. BT has to seek product and geographic markets, and has invested in Asia-Pacific as well as Europe. BT plans a joint venture with AT and T. There are, however, regulatory obstacles to the AT and T venture, and the outcome of BT's investments is not certain.
